Living Normally with Dementia: One Care Home’s Story and How to Make It Yours Wins Award in 2023 National Mature Media Awards Program
Baltimore, MD (August 8, 2023) — May Bjerre Eiby and her book Living Normally with Dementia: One Care Home’s Story and How to Make It Yours was a winner in the 32nd annual National Mature Media Awards Program. The program, presented by the Mature Market Resource Center, a national clearinghouse for the senior market, recognizes the nation’s finest marketing, communications, educational materials, and programs designed and produced for older adults.
Eiby’s book received a Merit Award for Publications/Editorial Media (National). The book tells the successful story of Dagmarsminde, a small innovative nursing home in Denmark with a remarkable and life-affirming approach to dementia care. The philosophy and lived experiences of this model home are illustrated with real examples and vignettes from day-to-day care. The founder and staff offer a replicable approach to helping their residents with dementia enjoy a richer, more normal-feeling life than residents receiving the “usual care” in most settings. The staff, in turn, enjoy the professional rewards of following their calling to this work with confidence and compassion
“We were delighted to take part yet again in the Mature Media Awards Program this year,” says Mary Magnus, Director of Publications for Health Professions Press, the publisher of Eiby’s book. “We’re honored that this unique resource was selected as a winner. The goal of the book is to help readers in the U.S. and around the world envision new, more satisfying ways of working with people living with dementia and to explore new approaches in their own care homes. We’re so excited to share the story of Dagmarsminde with the world.”
The entries were judged by a distinguished panel of mature market experts from across the United States for overall excellence of design, content, creativity, and relevance to the senior market.
