Bird Cards

Bird Tales

A Program for Engaging People with Dementia through the Natural World of Birds

Produced by Randy Griffin, R.N., M.S., HNC

Download the Bird Tales Activity Cards provided here to supplement your implementation of the Bird Tales™ program. Your Bird Tales Program Guide and accompanying DVD illustrate creative ways to use these cards to encourage discussion, interaction, and multisensory stimulation with people with dementia.

Each Activity Card features a beautiful, full-color photo of a common U.S. bird for the front side of the card and “look, listen, feel” tips to print on the back to help engage participants’ interest in the featured bird. The large vibrant photos bring the birds to the person’s lap, making it easier to see the birds up close, and the interesting facts on the back offer useful conversational prompts. We recommend laminating your printed cards for improved durability and protection from spills and tears.

This site includes reproducible files for the four sample cards featured in the Bird Tales Program Guide: Cardinal, Chickadee, Mourning Dove, and Tufted Titmouse. Plus, you will also find materials for creating Bird Tales Activity Cards for additional species (American Robin, Nuthatch). New birds keep being added to the collection, so come back to visit this site for future additions to use in your Bird Tales™ program.
