Beaufort B. Longest, Jr., Ph.D., FACHE, is the former M. Allen Pond Professor of Health Policy & Management in the Graduate School of Public Health at the University of Pittsburg, and Founding Director of the Health Policy Institute. With a doctorate from Georgia State University, Longest is also a fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives (FACHE) and holds memberships in the Academy of Management, AcademyHealth, American Public Health Association, and the Association for Public Policy Analysis and Management. He is an elected member of the Beta Gamma Sigma Honor Society in Business as well as in the Delta Omega Honor Society in Public Health.
His research on modeling managerial competence, issues of governance in healthcare organizations, and related issues of health policy and management has appeared in numerous peer-reviewed journals and he is author or co-author of 10 books and 30 chapters in other books. His book, Health Policymaking in the United States, Fifth Edition (Health Administration Press, 2010), is among the most widely used textbooks in graduate health policy programs.
He consults with healthcare organizations and systems, universities, associations, and government agencies on health policy and management issues.
