Dementia Care Mapping
Applications Across Cultures
Edited by Anthea Innes, Ph.D.
Foreword by Anna Ortigara, R.N., M.S. |
Anthea Innes, M.Sc., Ph.D.
Anthea Innes, M.Sc., Ph.D., became involved in the teaching, development, and use of the Dementia Care Mapping (DCM) for research purposes while she worked at the Bradford Dementia Group from 1997 to 2001. She became interested in the cultural applications of DCM during her involvement in setting up a DCM strategic partnership with the Heather Hill Hospital in Chardon, Ohio.
Dr. Innes, an Approved Dementia Care Mapping Evaluator and Trainer, works at the Centre for Social Research at the University of Stirling, Scotland. Her post involves the development of social gerontological research, with a specific emphasis on dementia. Her primary research interest is dementia and dementia care; within this broad area, her work has focused on the experiences of people with dementia and of informal caregivers and paid care workers. She is particularly interested in groups that are marginalized in relation to dementia and dementia care. To date, this concern has centered on minority ethnic groups, unqualified care staff, and dementia in rural areas. Dr. Innes also is interested in the development and use of methods to elicit the views of people with dementia and in process issues involved in the conduct of research.
Dr. Innes wrote Training and Development for Dementia Care Workers (Jessica Kingsley Publishers, 1999). With Karen Hartfield, she co-edited Healing Arts Therapies and Person Centred Dementia Care (Jessica Kingsley Publishers, 2001). In addition, she has authored or co-authored articles appearing in journals such as Ageing and Mental Health and Education and Aging.
