> Seminar Description

Mr. Zielske offers a variety of seminars that address well-being and spirituality in long-term care. Each seminar topic can be covered in 1–2 hours or expanded for more in-depth training. Seminar topics can also be combined for a half-day or full day of training:

Spiritual Well-Being

In this seminar, participants will investigate definitions of spirituality and work to discover their own spiritual growth. Mr. Zielske also will teach participants to recognize spirituality in the lives of others. Additionally, the seminar explores ways to care for a person’s whole self: body, mind, and spirit.

Topics covered include:

  • Definitions of spirituality and well-being
  • Core values of spirituality
  • Celebrating individuality, honoring diversity, and promoting dignity
  • Nurturing and honoring yourself – the spirituality of self care

Spirituality at Work

This interactive seminar teaches staff to identify and practice spirituality in the everyday tasks they perform. Participants also learn to develop effective communication and relationship-building skills to use in the work environment.

Mr. Zielske will discuss:

  • Definitions of spirituality and its relationship to an organization’s mission, vision, and value statements
  • The differences between healing and curing and issues of suffering
  • Relationships with residents that promote their well-being
  • Effective communication with other staff, families, and the general community
  • Fostering staff well-being
  • Spirituality in three specific areas of long-term care
    • the dining experience
    • pain management and palliative care
    • end of life care

Maintaining Well-Being During Transitions

Through reflections, case studies, personal journaling, and discussions, participants will learn methods and techniques for meeting the challenges of life’s many transitions. In this seminar, participants discuss ways to prevent crisises and learn methods for relieving stress during transitions.

Seminar topics include:

  • Life as a series of transitions
  • Stages of transitions and the impact of significant transitions, including death
  • Use of the arts and nature in working with those in significant transitions
  •  “Stopping” and other ways of relieving stress during transitions
  • Reflections, developing goals, and how to apply this information to real life settings

The Gift of Old Age

Designed for older adults in adult day centers or long-term care facilities, this seminar teaches participants that old age does have meaning, regardless of abilities or disabilities. With Mr. Zielske’s help, participants will learn to view old age as a gift and will discover their own unique gifts. Participants will also learn how their gifts lead to the preparation of a Spiritual Will in which their values and blessings for others are shared.
