Baltimore, MD (March 10, 2009)Twentieth anniversaries are a time to recognize accomplishments and reflect on heritage, but Health Professions Press (HPP), a Towson-based publisher, also sees this occasion as the time to look ahead and chart a course for its future contributions. With two decades of respected publishing in health care and related fields, this internationally distributed independent publisher is renewing its commitment to its authors and audiences to advance a vision that supports progressive ideas in aging services and other related areas of health care. HPP is proud to present its expanded vision and mission statements and unveil a new logo for its third decade of publishing.
HPP’s new vision focuses on the importance of thinking differently about what it means to grow older and to need care. Its complementary new mission emphasizes the company’s dedication to advancing physical, mental, social, emotional, and spiritual health through the resources that it publishes. HPP has perhaps been best known for its important contributions to Alzheimer’s care, including the pioneering Best Friends Approach book series and the moving autobiographical essays in Alzheimer’s from the Inside Out. The company has also received critical acclaim for its books on such vital issues as falls prevention, continence care, and mental health wellness. In addition, HPP’s textbooks on managing health services organizations and ethics in health care administration are widely adopted across the country. Expanding on this foundation, HPP is now also charting a forward-looking course for an aging society with illuminating new topics, such as Re-creating Neighborhoods for Successful Aging, to change the way we live.

In 2009, HPP has an impressive line-up of books to add to its award-winning list of publications, including Facing Death: A Companion in Words and Images; Wishing On A Star, the third in a series of Two-Lap® Books for people with dementia; and new editions in the Best Friends and Falls product suites. This product list is supported by HPP’s nationwide training program, Seminars on Site, a customized professional development service that brings HPP’s expert authors to customer-selected locations for in-depth training on the topics of their choice.
At this time, HPP also launches an updated logo to better reflect the company’s newly articulated identity and focus. The addition to the logo of a graphical image underscores HPP’s central intention to focus on the humanity in and changing culture of health care. The new logo also reinforces Health Profession Press’s increasingly recognized branding as “HPP.”
Health Professions Press looks forward to partnering with researchers, practitioners, readers, and advocates in advancing its mission to foster more satisfying care experiences, broaden professional knowledge, and preserve the individual dignity of those served. It is not too ambitious to believe that transforming how we think about health care can revolutionize how we grow older.
